Alan, like Iain Rutherford who shares this exhibition, began his artistic career not far away from the Harlequin Gallery at Goldsmith's College in New Cross and since those days in the late 1950's has been a constant fixture on the pottery scene. He has never pushed himself forward or relied on media hype like most of those potters known outside of serious pottery circles. However, he has always been there and always sold. Perhaps sometimes talent is all that is needed.

Alan's pots that make up this exhibition were all produced up until the middle of this year when he finally closed his workshop. However, because they were being made during the closing down process there are some examples that were glazed and finished recently but were made from older biscuit fired work that had long been "lost" in some corner of his workshop. Not hard to believe for anyone who knows Alan.
