February marks the beginning of my tenth year at the
Harlequin Gallery and what better way to start it than with an exhibition of
pots produced over the last year by Alan Wallwork or perhaps I should say
that “nice Mr. Wallwork”. The latter a reference to an ongoing joke that Alan
and I have maintained during our many telephone conversations since his last
exhibition here a year ago. Recently, telephone calls have been supplemented
with videos winging their way from the South of France – as an accompanying
letter stated, “I also enclose a video of me working and talking. Two bloody
hours of it!” The reason for
Alan branching out into “film-making” is that he was approached last year by
the author, Alan Peat, wishing to write his biography and as Alan W says, “by
filming myself it prompts me to explain what I’m doing and anecdotes and
reminiscences come up naturally”. Currently, the
book is a work in progress but I will keep you informed of matters and
obviously will stock the book once it is published. |
