Bill Marshall probably needs no introduction, as he was a constant presence at the Leach Pottery in St. Ives from 1938 when he was taken on as an apprentice until his retirement in 1977. He was foreman, senior craftsman and maker of most of the outstanding pots produced at the pottery from around 1960 onwards, even if they didn't all bear his personal seal.If we had "Living National Treasures" in this country then Bill should be one.
The three examples of Bill's work included in the showcase at the Harlequin Gallery from 25th January until 19th February 2004, shown below, were all made in 1999. |
