Denis outside the Harlequin – summer 2004

Denis Bowen

Exhibition of His Last Paintings at the Harlequin Gallery

4th and 25th June 2006

Denis Bowen
, who died on 23rd March 2006, after a year fighting serious ill health had arranged this exhibition with me last summer and, although he had intended to be around for the Private View, the title was always to have been “His Last Paintings”.

He had done the paintings on paper and canvas over a few months at the end of 2004 in his flat in London. Often he would work late in the night when he had been unable to sleep, and was very excited about the outcome. All explore his reoccurring themes of space, space travel, molten surfaces and fire – most appropriate as the European spacecraft, Venus Express, explores the atmosphere and surface of Venus, the “Hothouse Planet” in the weeks leading up to this exhibition.

Plans to publish a book to accompany the work were discussed but his long stay in hospital during 2005 made that impossible. However, as Denis would have wanted ……………… the show goes on and I hope you feel like Denis that this work is a fitting tribute.

Below are 6 of the works included in the exhibition: -
