The last exhibition before the usual summer recess at the Harlequin Gallery brings together pottery by students and colleagues of Michael Cardew, who despite his death in 1983 still has a significant influence on the world of ceramics. He was the first student at the Leach Pottery when he worked with Bernard Leach and Shoji Hamada in St. Ives from 1923 to 1926 and went on to establish potteries of his own. Firstly, the Winchcombe Pottery, where he produced lead glazed earthenware and later potteries producing stoneware at Wenford Bridge in Cornwall, Vume’ in Ghana and Abuja in Nigeria.
