Cho Chang Guen

Cho Chang Guen was born on 27th March 1973 and graduated in ceramics from Seoul National University in South Korea in 2003. He mainly makes traditional Korean chawan and more experimental chawan, which he fires in a wood fired noburigama (a climbing kiln with stepped chambers) at the University, where he has a studio. Cho mixes his own clay and using his own glaze recipes and is beginning to build a reputation in his own country.

I came across his work purely by chance but knew that I would like to show it here in the UK when possible. The “Tea Bowl” exhibition during March 2005 at the Harlequin Gallery provided the perfect opportunity and included in a selection of chawan, yunomis and guinomis by Cho were the six bowls shown below.

Those that are not marked sold, together with other work by Cho, will remain in stock at the gallery. Please contact for current availability.
