started throwing the new pots for the exhibition in January and I will use
his words from a recent letter to describe the process. "I didn't know
what I was going to do because I happen to have started painting again and
this was occupying most of my creativity. This proved a blessing in disguise
as it took the pressure off the pots and instinct just took over. Gradually
the painting and pots started to fuse and I hope that the results speak for
themselves. It is still on going so I don't know what else might
emerge." The pots are
all still wheel-based and then distorted, decorated and very lightly raw
glazed. Often Gordon will fire two or three times until the results satisfy. The work of Donald
Wells by comparison is not all recently made, covering as it does the
last 45 years. It includes sculpture in bronze, plaster, stone and wood as
well as wall reliefs, paintings and the most recent addition to his
repertoire - printmaking. Donald has
been exhibiting for over 40 years and he was also part of the artistic and
literary scene at the legendary Troubadour Club, Earl's Court during the
Fifties and Sixties. |
