The theme that links the three artists in this exhibition is the continuing exchange of ideas and practices between Japan and Europe. This is more prominent in the ceramic world but the inclusion of Shoichi Hasegawa, the printmaker who worked at Atelier 17 in Paris during the 1960's, hopefully illustrates that it is not just confined to pottery. Both Japanese artists in the exhibition travelled to Europe to work after starting their careers in Japan but Robert Ayton, the English member of the trio, differs in that his working experience has been confined entirely to this country.
