Frank Fidler

(1910 - 1995)
Paintings and other work from 1950’s and 1960’s

Janet Leach

(1918 -1997)
Pottery, together with other selected items from the Leach Pottery

13th June to 4th July 2004

This exhibition brings together the work of two of my favourite artists, who are no longer with us.

I imagine that Janet Leach will need no introduction to most of you but, even to those of you interested in Post-War British art, Frank Fidler may be an unknown figure. Certainly I believe that his work is more worthy and powerful than that of many artists of the period that have become household names. However, as his obituary in the Guardian stated he had left the London art scene some thirty years earlier and had therefore become forgotten. Indeed he was a shy man who painted because he needed to and not for any recognition or financial gain that it might bring.

Alongside the work by Janet Leach, other work from the Leach Pottery will be on show, together with a few pots made by "Leach Potters" after they left St. Ives.
