Gary Wood was born in 1955 and is a Fellow of the Craft Potters Association of Great Britain. He studied ceramics at Cumbria College of Art and Design under Jim Malone and had work experience during 1985 with Patrick Sargent.Over the years he has exhibited in virtually all of the leading ceramic galleries in the UK, including a solo exhibition at the Scottish Gallery in Edinburgh, as well as at the Gayle Wilson Gallery in New York. However, his forthcoming outing as the featured artist in the showcase of teabowls, yunomis and teapots at the Harlequin Gallery will be the first time that his work has been shown here. Gary works in stoneware that he fires in an electric kiln. The work is thrown and often altered before various slips, pigments and glazes are applied to create thick surfaces that often exhibit both matt and reflective areas. There will be no Private View of this showcase but no items will be sold until the doors open at 11a.m. on Sunday 25th January.
Below are examples of Gary's yunomis that will be included in the showcase at the Harlequin Gallery from 25th January until 19th February 2004. |
