Katerina Evangelidou

New Wood-fired Ceramics

8th February to 1st March 2009

It is appropriate that the penultimate exhibition in Greenwich sees a return of a good friend, Katerina Evangelidou, for her fourth solo exhibition at the Harlequin. Katerina had initially shown her work here before I took the gallery over ten years ago but I will always be grateful to her for agreeing to an exhibition in my first year at only a few months notice. At that point we had never met and my introduction to her work was through numerous examples that Trevor Coldrey had in his collection in the rooms above the gallery. These wood fired vessels impressed me with their sculptural form that echoed on the figurative.

Over the years the work has developed but has never bowed to commercial pressures. This show is especially fresh and exciting, as it will be the first solo exhibition from her new kiln, affectionately known as “Birbilo”.
