Laura Gethen
Smith has held three exhibitions at the
Harlequin Gallery and they have shown a continuing development in the work
she produces.
In the past she has used oil,
acrylic, watercolour and gouache, and her work has encompassed drawings,
small paintings on paper and large canvases. As Laura stated before her 2005
show, "Since my last exhibition at the Harlequin Gallery in 2003, I have
moved towards a complete refining of shape, colour and proportion in my
paintings. This has developed through my growing fascination with collage
which has shown me, that through constant reduction, I can achieve the
simplicity and balance within my work that I have always strived for."
Laura was for many years a London based artist having trained at
Croydon College of Art, City & Guilds of London Art School and St.
Martin's School of Art and been a member of the APT studios in Deptford.
However, she now lives on the South Coast. Her work is to found in public and
private collections in the United Kingdom, Europe, Australia and the United States.
