It is with pleasure that I welcome back Phil Rogers for his fifth solo exhibition at the Harlequin Gallery. Although he was well-known in the UK when the gallery held its first exhibition it is fair to say that his international reputation has grown dramatically over the years until today when he is arguably the best known working British potter in the world. Since opening his first workshop in Rhayader over 25 years ago, Phil has had more than thirty solo shows and numerous group exhibitions in this country and as far afield as the USA, Japan and South Korea. He has also spent time lecturing and holding workshops in these countries as well as in South Africa, Malta, Canada and Israel and is the author of three books on pottery. This activity and his growing reputation has resulted in around thirty museums around the world now holding examples of Phil's work. Some of the 73 recently produced pots that make up the exhibition can be seen below. Selling will commence at 2.30pm on Sunday 22nd February, with the usual queuing system in operation . However, it is likely that the doors will open a little early to allow potential buyers to have time to inspect the work. Phil will be in attendance at the Private View and if you are very good he may tell you about Tatsuzo Shimaoka buying him lunch recently! |
