Reginald Lloyd was born near Hereford in 1926 but has spent most of his life in the West Country, where he began painting in 1948.

He was a good friend of the sculptor, Henry Moore, who encouraged him with his painting early on. However, perhaps his most important friendship was that which he had with the Poet Laureate, Ted Hughes, until Hughes' death just a few years ago. Reg illustrated four of Hughes' books of poems, including the award winning What is the Truth? published in 1984.

The Harlequin Gallery exhibition consists of forty paintings from throughout Reg's career, together with thirteen ceramic sculptures made by Reg over the last eight months. The paintings include work in oil, acrylic, watercolour, a couple of ink drawings and an etching. Of these 40% are from the 1950's and 1960's and prices range from just £180 to £1600, although almost half are £380 or less. Ridiculous prices for an artist whose exhibitions include Portrait of the Artist at the Tate Gallery, solo exhibitions in London West End galleries and annual showing with the Royal Institute at the Mall Galleries. To top this Reg also exhibited at the DFN Gallery, Broadway, New York at the end of last year - so it's from Broadway to Greenwich in six months like it should always be!
