Ursula Mommens & Rachel Wood

This exhibition saw the return of Ursula Mommens for her fifth exhibition at the Harlequin Gallery. In contrast Rachel Wood, the other potter sharing this exhibition, was making her first visit. It can be argued that, as Ursula is a descendent of Josiah Wedgwood, she is merely following a family tradition. Indeed it is clear that Ursula was interested in pottery from an early age as she still has a large slipware dish by Bernard Leach that her mother bought her in 1923. Now less than two months away from her 96th birthday she has produced a body of new work from this Harlequin Gallery exhibition. Images of this work can be seen by going to Ursula's page via the link below.. Rachel Wood came relatively late to pottery following a career change when she was in her early thirties. Since graduating from Loughborough University in 1999 she has continued to develop her pots as well as teaching part time. An example of her work is being used to advertise the Rufford Craft Centre Exhibition Programme for July to December 2004, clearly demonstrating how her reputation is growing. If you are unfamiliar with her work, examples are to be found by clicking on the link below. |
