William (Bill) Marshall was a constant presence at the Leach Pottery in St. Ives from 1938 when he was taken on as an apprentice until his retirement in 1977. He was foreman, senior craftsman and maker of most of the outstanding pots produced at the pottery from around 1960 onwards, even if they didn't all bear his personal seal. Upon his retirement until his death in 2007, Bill continued to make pots at his home in Lelant in between fishing and planting tree seedlings in places that he remembered there being trees when he was a boy.

Currently the Leach Pottery in St. Ives is staging a major retrospective exhibition of Bill’s life and work that continues until 16th July 2011.
