Frances Treanor

Frances Treanor, who was born in Cornwall of Irish ancestry, is a graduate of London University (Goldsmith's) and Middlesex University (Hornsey).

Specialising in pastel, she is able to express her interest in the medium as a complete art form, which can be both sensuously intimate and immediate. She believes its role in therapy and potentiality of expression is enormous but largely unexplored.

There are two sides to her art; the private, feminist one and the more extrovert. The latter surfaces in richly hued, vibrant flower and urban landscape pastels sometimes framed with borders bursting with decorative energy. The former often manifests itself as a large collage or a small oil pastel drawing, which illustrates a serious point about a human relationship, in a witty, uncensored manner, based on ancient mythology.

She has won many awards and commissions from private, corporate and public sectors and her paintings are exhibited widely and published throughout Europe and the USA. Her book "Vibrant Flower Painting", both written and illustrated by Frances, was published by David & Charles in the UK in 1995.
