Going Forward

posted in: Exhibitions | 0

Many of you will have noticed that the Harlequin Gallery’s online activity and exhibition programme has decreased over recent years. This is due to advancing years and the desire to deal directly in person with people like it used to be. The bottom line is that I do not need to spend my time selling ceramics and any other items. If I do, then I have got to enjoy it. Below I will try and set out what will happen going forward.

Exhibitions

This year I have held only one exhibition. This was combined with the annual Plumstead Open Studios event that I have organised since 2016. Details of this year’s event can be found at Plumstead Open Studios 2024 – plumstravaganza.co.uk

The plan for 2025 is to do just the same. Therefore, the Harlequin Gallery 2025 exhibition will take place on Saturday 6th and Sunday 7th September. Something might crop up that means that I add to this but if it does then it will be advertised well in advance.

Plumstead Community Market

Before the pandemic I organised this Market on behalf of Art Plumstead for several years. Art Plumstead is a self-funding voluntary group that was set up in 2012 to organise events associated with the arts in Plumstead, London SE18. I still organise others events for Art Plumstead such as the Open Studios. However, I “handed over the reins” of the Market to Kirsty, who is a ceramicist herself.

The Market takes place at St. Marks Hall, Old Mill Road SE18 1QE on the THIRD SATURDAY of every month. That is, with the exception of January and August. I have been outside the Hall with my wares beginning in May this year and, despite it raining every time, the plan is to continue doing this beginning this Saturday, 16th November 2024.

I have gone back to being a more general dealer at the Community Market but I always take studio pottery with me and paintings/books when weather permits. All British studio pottery has been priced at £50 per item maximum and generally much less. I will try and continue at this level as long as possible. Likewise the boxed Japanese ceramics are keenly priced. At my time of life things need to go. If you plan to come to this Market at any time I am happy to bring specific items just for you to look at if you contact me beforehand.

Selling online

Going forward, I am still happy to sell online and send most items by post. However, the exception is that alternative methods or collection would be needed for large, delicate and expensive items. The current ceramics available can be found HERE
