Young Ran Lee is a ceramicist and designer, who was born in South Korea. She graduated from KM University there in Architecture and Design, where she specialized in fashion and textiles. She then won a scholarship in a national contest to study design in Italy and attended the Brera Academy of Fine Art in Milan. Upon completing her studies she worked as a fashion designer in Milan and Seoul.

Young Ran Lee moved to London to broaden her professional experience and attended several courses at Central Saint Martin’s before becoming interested in ceramics. This led to her taking the Ceramics Diploma Course at London Metropolitan University/City Lit. from where she graduated in 2015. I attended the graduation show, where the work in general was of an extremely high standard, and without prompting was told by several of the tutors that Young was the student that had most impressed. Since graduating Young has exhibited her work in London, Milan and Berlin and spending her time working in the first two of these cities. Her Berlin exhibition proving to be a virtual sell out and she continues to get considerable interest in her ceramics in Germany. Currently her work is being stocked by De Padova in Milan, who have be at the forefront of modern interior design since 1956. For those of you not able to get to Milan, I do have several pieces available in my Spring Exhibition that begins on Thursday 27th April 2017 and always try and keep some of Young’s work in stock.

Describing her ceramics, Young states, “My work explores a way of reaching down into my ancestral origin, where I find my primeval sources and my spontaneous ideas, following a sort of echo coming from something extremely distant in time, as a landscape of memories.”
